Four people are dead after a fire broke out early Wednesday at a plastics factory in Taichung's Wuri District.

According to Taichung Fire Bureau officials, firefighters responded to an emergency call at 4:58 a.m. reporting a blaze inside a factory on Renyi Street. The fire quickly engulfed the building's second floor, where members of a family, surnamed Huang, were living.

The victims were identified as a mother and father, both aged 55, a 2-year-old child and a grandmother, 85. The man was resuscitated at the scene but succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Firefighters say the home was strewn with materials and that signs pointed to the victims having attempted to escape the fast-moving fire.

The blaze is believed to have originated on the second floor. Its cause remains under investigation.
