It was a fatal attempt by a 16-year-old village girl in Uttar Pradesh to stop her alcoholic father from going for a round of booze with his friend, Tamil Nesan reported.
Neelam reportedly chased a truck her father was riding in to prevent him from going to a liquor shop.
As the driver sped off, the girl gave chase on her motorcycle and overtook the truck.
Unable to react on time, the driver allegedly rammed into the girl, killing her on the spot in the Sunday night incident.
Her younger brother, who was with her, was injured.
People who witnessed the incident grabbed the driver, identified as Jeetu, and handed him to the police.
Neighbours in Pehua village in Bareilly said Neelam had persistently tried to get her father to stop his drinking habit.
On the fateful night, she had reportedly pleaded with her father, identified as Netrapal, not to step out of their house, but he would not listen.
The girl's mother refused to lodge a police report, saying she had lost a child and did not want her husband in jail.
An uncle of the girl, however, has lodged a report with the police.
