Indian temple audit report finds missing gold

In an audit report submitted to the apex court, former chief government auditor Vinod Rai has found that 266kg of gold is missing from the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

Out of 893kg of gold that was given out for various works, it was found that only 627kg was returned to the temple.

The Supreme Court last year asked Mr Rai to conduct an audit of the temple's books and accounts.

This was after it was discovered a few years ago that things were amiss in the temple regarding the upkeep of priceless treasures, and the blame was placed on the former Travancore royal family.

They have yet to react to the audit report.
