South Korean debutant Kevin “Oldboy” Chung kicked off ONE: LIGHT OF A NATION with an impressive debut.

Chung stopped Chinese grappler Zhong Qing Ya with strikes in the second round of their catch weight bout, which electrified the crowd at the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.

The takedown proved to be the tale of the fight, as Chung looked to grapple early and often against his Chinese opponent. Zhong fended off a single leg in the opening minutes, allowing the match to be contested on the feet.

While the South Korean threw heavy leather courtesy of a series of right hands, Zhong hung in the pocket, where he battered the 24-year-old with a series of leg kicks.

Round two saw Chung finally land a takedown, and he wasted no time going to work. Zhong found himself on the wrong end of elbows and knees from the bottom position. The onslaught allowed “Oldboy” to advance to side control, where he continued his attack.

Zhong tried to defend and protect himself as best he could, but Chung delivered some hard punches to the head and a pair of knees that found a home on the side of the Chinese grappler’s head.

Referee Yuji Shimada was forced to halt the bout at the 3:37 mark of round two, giving the victory to Chung.

With the victory, Chung improves to a picture perfect 5-0. Zhong, meanwhile, sees his record fall to an even 2-2.
