Looking for a new beach destination? How about North Korea

Bet you didn't think reclusive North Korea had nice beaches you could visit.

But according to a recent report by the MailOnline Travel, the beaches there are apparently free of rubbish and waste materials, and the waters are pristine blue.

One adventure tour group company, Young Pioneer Tours, has come up with holiday itineraries where travellers can explore North Korea's beaches in Wonsan and Hamhung on the east coast, and go camping at the iconic Mount Kumgang.

Other than its beach, Wonsan is also being developed into a world-class ski resort. Both attractions will offer tourists recreational activities but with a "North Korean twist", said International Business Tribune.

Mount Kumgang is one of the best-known mountains in North Korea and stands at over 1.6km tall. It is surrounded by a park, forested area, river and a spectacular waterfall, said a traveller on TripAdvisor.

During the trip with Young Pioneer Tours, holiday-makers can enjoy BBQ meals at the beach with the locals, surf and participate in activities like volleyball and surfing.

The China-based company also said the tour-goers will be visiting popular tourist attractions in the capital of Pyongyang.

If safety is a concern, Mr Gareth Johnson who runs the holiday company told MailOnline Travel that there is nothing to be fearful about.

Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is a society governed by strict laws and customs, said Mr Johnson, and the place is safer than walking down the streets of London.

Mr Johnson also added that opportunities to mix and mingle with the locals is one of the key draws for tourists.
