Man crucifies himself for Tamil Nadu chief minister

Karate master Shihan Hussaini, 46, crucified himself on Feb 23 for J. Jayalalithaa's comeback as the Tamil Nadu chief minister.

Mr Hussaini, who is popular for his daring stunts, performed a self-crucification for six minutes and seven seconds. The nails were hammered into his palms and legs while he was tied to the cross.

He blacked out for a short while after the nails were removed and was rushed to a hospital. Said Mr Hussaini: "I worship her (Jayalalithaa). She is the only hope for Tamil Nadu."

However, Ms Jayalalithaa said in a letter to him that subjecting oneself to such an extreme act of self-inflicted pain should be avoided and thanked him for his concern for her.
