TAIPEI, TAIWAN - Does anyone write letters anymore? With this mailbox now available, some of us might pick up a quill again.
Taiwan on Monday inaugurated its first underwater mailbox, a classic red pillar box off the coast of Penghu.
And it really works, with a team of professional divers lined up to collect undersea letters.
This tower of mail-holding is beautiful to look at, rising from a garden of concrete elements that are a biologically friendly substrate for the growth of baby coral and shellfish.
It stands 160 cm high and weighs 800 kilograms. The materials used to build it - including stainless steel - were picked to ensure it would be long-lasting and easy to clean.
With ample dark hideaways at its base, the mailbox can also become a great home for little fishes.
