Take up skills training, school dropouts urged

About 30 per cent of Indian youngsters in the country have left school and many are involved in crime, Makkal Osai reported.

The paper quoted Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, who advised these students that they had avenues to pursue their education.

"Among these are technical training institutes," he said.

Although many of them achieved educational excellence in secondary schools, there were some - about 30 per cent - who were unable to cope with their studies and had opted out, the minister said after opening a Higher Education seminar for STPM and SPM students at Universiti Malaya campus on Saturday.

Palanivel called on social organisations to provide guidance and motivation to these Indian students who had left school.
