In the second bout of ONE CHAMPIONSHIP: SHANGHAI’s main card, Japanese featherweight Tetsuya Yamada made quick work of his American foe, Kyle Rozewski.

The 27-year-old featherweight was able to utilize his impressive ground skills, submitting Rozewski via rear-naked choke at the 1:55 mark of the very first round.

Yamada opened up the contest with a heavy kick to the midsection, letting the 34-year-old American, and those in attendance at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center, know that he was ready to be back in ONE Championship.

Rozewski absorbed the kick, but threw a few shots of his own before rushing in for a takedown attempt. Yamada was able to take the top position, however, a flashy scramble returned them to their feet as both warriors continued to threaten.

It would not stay on the feet for long, as Yamada soon took the match to the canvas, and immediately took Rozewski’s back with a full body triangle locked in. From there, “MMA Fantasista” slipped his arm under “Kyote’s” chin to secure the rear-naked choke.

The American tried his best to power out of it, but he was unable to. He tapped, and forced the referee to call a halt to the action.

Yamada, who has not entered the ONE cage since his January 2016 defeat to current ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang, gets his first promotional win, and elevates his record to 19-5-2.

As for Rozewski, he courageously filled in on three days’ notice to replace ex-ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag Jadambaa. His record falls to 5-6, but at least he can hold his head up high with a valiant effort.
