Thai abbot dies of hypothermia at monastic centre

A 57-year-old abbot at a monastic centre in Surin's Panom Dongrak district was found dead, apparently of hypothermia, on Wednesday morning.

The body of Phra Budda Wipullo was found dead under a blanket inside a tent. Since the monastic centre does not have a temple structure and living quarters, the monk lived in a tent at night. His followers came to the centre to give alms at 8am but he did not emerge from his tent and they found his body when they checked inside.

A doctor from the Panom Dongrak Hospital who first attended the scene said the monk had apparently died about six hours earlier. The monk was very respected by local villagers for his behaviour and practice of dharma.
