A man whose body was found floating in a Trang canal with a gunshot wound to the head and with hands and feet bound has been identified as 17-year-old Songkhla native Narenrit Suwannano.

The body was pulled from Khlong Lam Phura in Muang Trang on Tuesday afternoon. Police suspect he'd been lured to Trang and killed over a personal conflict.

Pol Major Opas Chaiboon of Muang Trang precinct said evidence was being gathered and a warrant for the perpetrator's arrest would be sought soon.

The victim's relatives in Songkhla's Thepa district had filed a missing person report on Tuesday. They were summoned to identify the body on Tuesday night and claimed custody in readiness for religious rites and a funeral.

The relatives told police Narenrit had left home on Monday night to meet his girlfriend and never returned.
