BRUNEI - Three Royal Brunei (RB) airlines' flights operating to and from Surabaya and Jakarta have been cancelled due to the volcanic ash from the recent eruption of Mount Kelud in Kediri on Java island, Indonesia.
According to a statement on RB's website, Surabaya airspace has been shut down until further notice. The volcanic eruption which releases thick ash in the air affected flight BI795 yesterday from Bandar Seri Begawan to Surabaya. The flights affected today are BI737 from Bandar Seri Begawan to Jakarta and BI738 from Jakarta to Bandar Seri Begawan.
RB airlines has advised affected customers not to proceed to the airport and that online check-in for the affected flights is unavailable. The national carrier stated that it would waive administration and change fees for customers confirmed to travel on a disrupted flight, or defer the travel for up to one week without penalties.
The waiver is valid for tickets travelling to and from Surabaya and Jakarta between February 14 and February 21.
