Vietnam's Da Nang tops Destinations on the Rise: TripAdvisor

SINGAPORE - Move over Hanoi, Goa and Phuket, the crown for best holiday spots in the world might soon be overtaken by sister cities in your country.

According to a TripAdvisor survey, Da Nang in Vietnam and Sihanoukville in Cambodia have been crowned first and second place, respectively, in its latest Travellers' Choice awards for Destinations on the Rise (World).

The award seeks to highlight 52 spots around the world which have seen the greatest increase in positive feedback and interest from TripAdvisor's community over the years.

The two holiday spots topped the list, beating out other contenders such as Limassol in Cyprus who took the third spot and Bodrum City in Turkey who came in fifth.

Thailand, which is known for having world's best beaches, came in fourth with Ao Nang town in Krabi.

Located between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang has bagged the top spot thanks to its tranquil beaches and Buddhist sanctuaries, said TripAdvisor.

Food lovers will also be happy to note that the town also provides culinary tours and many opportunities to enjoy authentic local cuisine with over 200 restaurants.

According to reviews on TripAdvisor, one of the attractions visitors should visit is the historic Marble Mountains where the paranomic views have been described as breathtaking.

Over in Cambodia, Sihanoukville has won the hearts of TripAdvisor's reviewers for being a great location for snorkelling and diving activities. Other than the beach, travellers have also highlighted Ream National Park a place to experience a "true tropical forest".
