AsiaOne iPad app wins Award of Excellence at The Communicator Awards

SINGAPORE - Just five months after its launch, the AsiaOne iPad app has clinched a top international award.

AsiaOne, which aggregates content from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) publications and other sources, has won an Award of Excellence at The Communicator Awards, an international awards programme recognising big ideas in marketing and communications.

Founded two decades ago, The Communicator Awards receives over 6,000 entries from companies and agencies of all sizes, making it one of the largest awards of its kind in the world. Entries are scored on a 100 point scale by the judges. Excellence Winners receive a score of 90 or above and Distinction Winners receive a score of 70 to 89.

The Communicator Awards is sanctioned and judged by the US-based International Academy of Visual Arts, an invitation-only group consisting of top-tier professionals from acclaimed media, communications, advertising, creative and marketing firms such as Conde Nast and Disney.

For winning the Award of Excellence - the highest honour of the Communicator Awards - in the newly introduced "Mobile Apps - News" category, AsiaOne was presented with a Gold Communicator statuette.

AsiaOne is the only Singapore and Asian entry to win an Award of Excellence in the mobile category at the prestigious Communicator Awards.

The AsiaOne iPad app was launched in Dec 2013 to complement the website's smartphone apps.

Other winners included major international brands such as TED Ed, Skype and Adobe Systems Inc.

Mr Adrian Tay, Editor of AsiaOne, said: "It's very heartening that the team's hardwork and effort is recognised at an international level. This means the AsiaOne team has what it takes to compete at a global level."

"We are constantly striving to roll out better digital products," added Mr Tay. "Content partners who want to work with us will be able to enhance the digital space together with quality content."

The AsiaOne iPad app offers users a wide range of news and lifestyle content from SPH publications such as The Straits Times and The Business Times, as well as numerous magazines and top websites in Asia.

Apart from breaking news updates and business developments from Singapore and beyond, the AsiaOne iPad app will allow readers to discover more through beautiful photography, commentaries, travel articles, nutritional and fitness advice, and share them through social media tools.

The app also caters to readers who wish to customise the way they get their news updates with its intuitive user experience.

The AsiaOne iPad app is the latest addition to a suite of mobile apps by AsiaOne, which includes smartphone apps for both Apple and Android users, as well as The Straits Times SoShiok food guide mobile app.
