The awards, which list the the top 50 restaurants in Asia, are an offshoot of the much-watched and coveted World's 50 Best Restaurants list, which is put out by UK trade publication Restaurant magazine, published by the William Reed Media Group. The world list began in 2002.

The first three instalments of the Asian awards ceremony - the list was launched in 2013 - had been held in Singapore.
