Beckham steals limelight at Wimbledon with stray ball catch

David Beckham was given a loud round of applause when he caught a stray tennis ball at Thursday's Wimbledon men's doubles semi-final match between Jamie Murray, John Peers and Jonathan Erlich and Philipp Petschzner.

Dressed in a suit and tie, Beckham, who was seated in the Royal Box, appeared sheepish as the crowd cheered and whistled when video footage revealed he had caught the ball with one hand.

As the camera zoomed in on him, the former football star threw the ball back and waved to the excited crowd.

The Wimbledon organising committee posted photos and a video of the star's catch on its social media accounts. In one photo post, Wimbledon jokingly said: "Can we have our ball back please...?"

A video posted on the Wimbledon Facebook page has been shared close to 59,000 times just 24 hours after it was uploaded.
