Best cities to travel to in 2016

Lonely Planet has released its Best in Travel list for 2016, detailing places around the world its team has determined is worth a visit. While Singapore has dropped out of the list of destinations this year, other cities mentioned have their own unique charms and character.

Topping the 2016 best cities to visit list is the picturesque town of Kotor, Montenegro, in Europe. Located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, Lonely Planet describes Kotor as one of the most photogenic spots in Europe, and recommends travellers to visit quickly, before cruise ships and tourists overwhelm the charming city.

Closer to home, George Town in Penang came in at number four on the list, chosen because of its thriving arts scene. Already a UNESCO World Heritage site, George Town can expect more visitors to its murals and exhibition spaces this year with the listing.
