Bowling: Hopes rest with Cherie

SINGAPORE - Cherie Tan remains the only Singapore bowler in contention at the 35th AIK International Tournament after she finished eighth in the second leg of the final in Sweden yesterday.

While the tournament saw all three of Singapore women qualify for the finals, Tan was the only one who made it to the final round with a score of 2,279 pinfalls.

Compatriots Jazreel Tan and former world champion Shayna Ng, who notched up 2,182 and 2,162 pinfalls respectively, were eliminated.

The final round, which concluded the 11-day tournament, was held at the Bowl-O-Rama Centre in Stockholm and results were not available at press time.

Cherie is coming off a successful 2014, when she won big twice in South Korea. After winning a gold medal at last year's Asian Games in Incheon, the 26-year-old went on to claim the women's event at the Daejeon International Open.

Cherie, Ng and Jazreel, who won one gold, two silvers and one bronze at last year's Asiad, are all expected to feature prominently at this year's South-east Asia (SEA) Games, which will be held on home soil from June 5 to 16.
