CICC Assists GO-JEK in Completion of US$1.5 Bn Private Placement

BEIJING, March 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In February 2018, Indonesia's largest unicorn company GO-JEK successfully completed its Series E private placement. The Series E funding round raised about US$1.5 billion, which is the largest single round of financing in the TMT sector in the emerging Southeast Asia. China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC) acts as the sole Financial Advisor for Greater China for the transaction.

GO-JEK is Indonesia's largest one-stop consumer mobile on-demand and payment platform, operating the largest motorcycle transportation platform, food delivery platform, instant logistics platform and digital wallets in Indonesia, and has a business model similar to the combination of China's "Didi + Meituan + Dada + Alipay". Present in the top 50 cities in Indonesia, GO-JEK has 25 million registered users, 50 million total monthly transactions and more than US$2.1 billion annualized total transaction value. Through digital wallet GO-PAY, GO-JEK aims to expand its payment-use cases and offer ubiquitous payments coverage similar to WechatPay and Alipay in China.

The Series E funding round attracted high-quality investors, including strategic investors Tencent, JD.com, Meituan, Google, and financial investors such as Temasek, BlackRock, Samsung Venture Investment. Investors from previous rounds have also committed additional capital in this round, including KKR, Warburg Pincus, Sequoia, and Northstar, etc.

As the sole Financial Advisor for Greater China, CICC led the communication and coordination of Chinese investors for the transaction. In collaboration with the company, CICC explored potential value that would appeal to Chinese investors, which led to the investors' recognition and acceptance of GO-JEK's business model, product and services, as well as the valuation in this round, thereby contributing to the successful closing of the deal.

Assisting Indonesian company GO-JEK in the successful completion of Series E private placement reflects that CICC actively responds to "the Belt and Road Initiative" and keeps with the market trend to bridge China and the world. As a leading investment bank with "China Roots, International Reach", CICC will continue to utilize its capital market expertise as well as its seamless cooperation of onshore and offshore businesses, to facilitate the cross-border capital cooperation between China and the "Belt and Road" countries, and continue to provide high-quality financial services for more enterprises in the international M&A market.
