Indosat Ooredoo and Nexford University Partner to Provide Scholarships for 10,000 Indonesians

JAKARTA, Indonesia, Aug. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Indosat Ooredoo, the leading digital telco in Indonesia, has joined hands for the first time with an online American university based in Washington DC to provide scholarships for up to 10,000 Indonesians. This initiative also supports Indonesian government's decision to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) by promoting online learning and encouraging institutions to shift the medium of learning to digital.

Indosat Ooredoo, through IM3 Ooredoo, will provide essential support for online education by giving 20GB data per month to learners who enroll for any Nexford course, certificate, or degree program throughout the duration of the course. The scholarship will also provide to new Indonesian learners who enroll at the Nexford university, a 20% reduction in the tuition fee, making online education accessible and affordable.

President Director & CEO Indosat Ooredoo, Ahmad Al-Neama, said: "Learning and working will continue to look different after COVID-19 and the demand for online education will continue to grow beyond 2020. We, at Indosat Ooredoo, are committed to support the growth of Indonesia and Indonesians by providing all means to support a digital lifestyle. Powered by an easy access to Internet, and along with Nexford University, USA, we want to help our learners by giving free 20GB data plus a reduced tuition fee to support their dream for a better future by choosing the right education."

Fadl Al Tarzi, Chief Executive Officer, Nexford University, said: "Indonesia is in a unique position to take advantage of online learning because more than 171 million are connected to the internet, its youth are extremely tech-savvy and will certainly value a modern, innovative university experience. Our collaboration with Indosat Ooredoo makes high-quality American education accessible to Indonesians without needing to invest tens of thousands of dollars."

According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics data, Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) or the ratio of students to higher education levels in Indonesia is only 36.3 percent, it is still low compared to 88 percent in the United States. Indonesia currently has 600 universities, which is much fewer than its neighboring countries and a fraction of the US with over 2,000 universities. Therefore, Indosat Ooredoo collaborated with Nexford University to bridge the gap by providing a high- quality online education option that will support learning activities from home or anywhere.

The scholarship complements Indosat Ooredoo's deeply embedded CSR program to support digital needs while people are working from home and learners are home-schooling.
