After a successful premiere in Australia: VARTA Storage energy storage systems ready for cascading

More flexibility in energy storage

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - Media OutReach - 16  May 2018 - Following the successful launch of the pulse energy storage system in Australia, VARTA Storage shipped the first containers from Germany at the end of April for delivery to end customers in June 2018. The compact wall mounted system is available in two performance classes: pulse 3 with 3.3 kilowatt hours (kWh) and pulse 6 with 6.5 kWh. Gordon Clements, General Manager of POWER and ENERGY at VARTA Storage, said, "Especially for the needs of the Australian energy market, we have further developed the devices that have already proven themselves in Europe." If the cacapcity of the energy storage systems is not enough, you can cascade up to five energy storage systems. "With this cascading possibility, anyone can tailor their energy storage to their personal needs and upgrade their capacity as needed," continues Clements. At present the Australian approval for the cascading is being prepared. This cascading function requires only one current sensor to be fitted and functions for the end user like one system.

Whether it's the desire for even more independence from the energy provider or an increased energy demand, over time, the demands of homeowners change. With the VARTA pulse energy storage system this is easily possible. By cascading up to five energy storage systems of the same type with the VARTA Link, the gross capacity of the storage network can be significantly increased. In that way,for example, the self-consumption rate of the self-produced energy can be increased.

Up to five VARTA pulse energy storage systems can either be connected to one phase or each individually to one of the phases. For example, if you have a 3-phase connection in your home, you can now conveniently charge your electric vehicle with the VARTA pulse storage system. With three connected energy storage systems, each delivering a total output of six kilowatt hours, most electric cars can be charged for a distance of over 100 kilometers. Thus, the usual commute routes are well covered.

VARTA Storage is currently talking to several energy suppliers about the use of pulse energy storage systems in virtual power plants. In this case, many energy storage systems are used as buffers to relieve the power grid, for example, in emergencies. Therefore the customer provides the energy supplier with the capacity of his storage system for a short time and receives financial compensation for this.
