CHENGDU, China, March 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- On March 1, Beijing time, the Executive Board Meeting of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) was held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. Luo Qiang, Mayor of Chengdu, on behalf of the city, formally signed a contract with the FISU and Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) to host the FISU 31st Summer Universiade 2021.
From March 2 to 12, 2019, the FISU 29th Winter Universiade will be held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, and the Executive Board Meeting of FISU will be held before the opening of the event. During the meeting, an important agenda is the signing of the hosting contract of FISU Summer Universiade 2021 between the FISU, the FUSC and the Chengdu Municipal People's Government.
Before signing, Wang Guangliang, the representative of the People's Government of Chengdu and Director of the Communication Department of the Chengdu People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, delivered a presentation. He briefed on the profile of Chengdu and its education and sports programs, and the basic information of Chengdu in its bidding for the FISU 31st Summer Universiade 2021, covering organizational structure, competition, venue, Universiade Village, transport, security, medical care, media and transmission, market development, volunteers, and theme activities. Afterwards, as for the bidding report and the preliminary preparations of Chengdu, Summer Universiade Director Marc Vandenplas made an assessment report, and praised highly of the preliminary preparations of Chengdu on behalf of International University Sports Federation (FISU).
At the end of the meeting, FISU, Federation of University Sports of China, and Chengdu City signed the contract for hosting the FISU 31st Summer Universiade 2021. It means that Chengdu became the third city in mainland China to host the event after Beijing and Shenzhen.
