The objective of this trip was to forge relationships with key trade policy makers and economic organizations in China to showcase the abundant opportunities in Michoacan for trade partnerships, investment, and tourism. It started in China's capital city of Beijing, over meetings with China's foreign business policy leaders discussing the objectives of Mexico's foreign policy with respect to China and how to progress the bilateral economic agenda in the framework of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Governor Aureoles focused on working to strengthen bilateral relations with preeminent government and business organizations in China, like the Friendship Association of the Chinese People with the Foreigner (CPAFFC) and the China Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA).

In Shanghai, Governor Aureoles met with Yong Ying, Mayor of the Municipality of Shanghai, to discuss how to build a stronger relationship between Shanghai and Mexico as well as to encourage Shanghai investors to explore the bountiful opportunities in Michoacan's Special Economic Zone and Port City of Lazaro Cardenas.

The delegation also organized a gala event called Noche de Muertos hosted by the Government of the State of Michoacan de Ocampo at the Ahn Luh Resort in Shanghai. The celebration was inspired by Dia de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday in which the deceased are honored. Rather than being a somber occasion, it's a time to celebrate their lives and what their presence meant to the bereft. It traditionally occurs from November 1st to November 2nd, so this November visit proved a fortuitous occasion for bringing this unique Mexican celebration to Shanghai. The atmospheric Ahn Luh Resort served as the backdrop for a gourmet meal, live performances, multimedia installations, and general conviviality. Governor Aureoles addressed the gala, expressing bullish optimism about the prosperous future Michoacan and China can share together as partners.

The following night, the Government of the State of Michoacan de Ocampo hosted a business cocktail meeting at Mr & Mrs Bund restaurant with key leaders from Michoacan and Shanghai to talk about commerce and investment. The objective was to promote the key relevance of Mexico and Michoacan's trade market in the Free Trade Zone of the Port of Lazaro Cardenas, which naturally connects to the port of Shanghai.

The tour then concluded with a final day in the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong, where Governor Aureoles met with key figures of Hutchinson Port Holdings: CEO Mr. Lui Fai Yim, General director of America Jorge Magno Lecona, and Group Managing Director Mr. Eric Ip.

About Michoacan: The State of Michoacan de Ocampo is at the forefront of Mexico's economy, with an abundance of promising investment and trade opportunities and tourism and travel destinations as well. The state's commercial activities cover a diverse range of sectors, like agriculture, manufacturing, information technology, and tourism. Michoacan's port city of Lazaro Cardenas, the deepest in Mexico, serves as a hub for this economic powerhouse. Its position on Mexico's central southern Pacific coast grants it unparalleled access to the most relevant markets in the world. That's 141 ports in 31 countries, including 13 in the Asia-Pacific region. The port city's status as a Special Economic Zone also gives it a competitive edge with first-class infrastructure, expedient customs procedures and regulatory frameworks, and generous tax incentives at all levels of government. Michoacan's connection to a vast network of railroads and highways to major population centers in Mexico make this state a gateway to the greater Mexican economy as well as a conduit to the consumer markets of The U.S. and Canada. The state's travel and tourism destinations range from the beautiful beaches and natural scenery to cultural centers and even a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Four airports with service to major cities throughout Mexico and the US make travel to and from Michoacan efficient and easy, whether travelling for business or pleasure.
