Mrs Estee Ng, Country Manager of Air France and KLM Malaysia says: "We proudly mark KLM's 60 years of scheduled flights to Kuala Lumpur, although KLM had a much earlier presence in Malaysia when in 1924 the first KLM intercontinental flight en route to Jakarta made a refuelling stop in Alor Star, Kedah."

In celebration, KLM will launch a KLM 60th anniversary contest from 17-23 April, 2018 where contestants can win a pair of return KLM tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam. Visit https://my.klmcontest.com to participate in the 'KLM's Big 60 in Malaysia' contest.

KLM passengers departing on KLM from Kuala Lumpur on 26 April will also receive a small souvenir to celebrate a double birthday, KLM's 60th birthday in Malaysia and King's Day which is celebrated on 27 April, 2018 in the Netherlands.

KLM will also be launching a celebratory fare later this month from Kuala Lumpur to Europe, the Americas and many other destinations.

About KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in Malaysia

KLM's Malaysian story began in 1924 when on 1 October, 1924 KLM started its first Intercontinental flight from Amsterdam to Jakarta. A KLM Fokker F7-II, very modern for its time and one of the first passenger planes with an enclosed cabin, was meant to take 22 days but it landed in Jakarta on 24 November, 1924, with no fewer than 21 stops, one of them being in Alor Star!

KLM began a direct scheduled service to Kuala Lumpur in 1958. The first flight took off from Amsterdam on 25 April, 1958 and a week later a small Dutch business delegation, onboard the aircraft Super Constellation "Griffioen" with registration PH-LKG officially inaugurated the direct Kuala Lumpur-Amsterdam route. The delegation remarked that they applauded the new fast and direct route to Malaysia as many big Dutch businesses had set up In Malaysia encouraging trade and export between Malaysia and the Netherlands.
