PETALING JAYA - Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin did not intend to show disrespect to the Prime Minister in a recent video recording that went viral.
Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Muhyiddin was merely expressing the same views as Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) matter.
"To be fair, Muhyiddin did mention in the video that it was not his intention to disrespect the Prime Minister.
"If we follow the statements made by Najib before this, he has also said the same things," said Abdul Rahman, who is also an Umno supreme council member.
However, he noted the difference in their stance as Muhyiddin had called for the removal of the CEO, while Najib had emphasised action to be taken after investigations were completed.
"I agree that the removal of the 1MDB CEO would calm public anxiety but I don't know if it can contribute in our quest for the truth," he said.
The current board, he added, had just taken over the reins and would need time to understand the history of transactions before being questioned by the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee.
"This is time-wasting and goes against the urgent call to investigate 1MDB," said Abdul Rahman.
He suggested that sacking the 1MDB board would not help get to the bottom of the truth and should only be considered if they refused to testify.
