It helps equip business leaders with unrivalled insight into the best practices in corporate governance, and assists corporations adapt to rapid changes brought on by regulation and technology.

HKICS will examine students under the NQP so that they acquire both Chartered Secretary (CS) and Chartered Governance Professional (CGP) designations concurrently. Being part of an international institute, holders of the dual designation are entitled to practice in other jurisdictions including Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Southern Africa, the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.

HKICS President David Fu FCIS FCS(PE) said at the Cocktail Reception, "The New Qualifying Programme will replace the existing International Qualifying Scheme on 1 January 2020. While maintaining the core learning of corporate secretarial practice, the New Qualifying Programme will place a greater emphasis on compliance and advanced governance such as boardroom dynamics, as well as introducing a new module on risk management."

"The new course of study and the dual designation are forward-thinking initiatives to meet the demand for well-trained, good governance professionals in an increasingly regulated and risk-conscious environment. HKICS will continue working closely with regulators, employers, academic institutions and other stakeholders to promote higher standards of governance in this part of the world," Mr Fu further indicated.

International President of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) and HKICS Past President Edith Shih FCIS FCS(PE) remarked, "This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the first informal grouping of Chartered Secretaries of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Hong Kong.  In this double anniversary year for HKICS, which is the Hong Kong/China division of ICSA, and as the premier education and qualifying body for Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional in Hong Kong and Mainland China, the HKICS will continue to qualify and train talents who can take up diverse governance roles for different types of organisations, including publicly listed, large or small private companies, non-profit organisations as well as government bodies."
