OPIM to launch Kaison Asian Small & Mid Cap Fund SP with Kaison Asset Management

HONG KONG, Feb. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- OP Investment Management ("OPIM"), Asia's leading hedge fund platform is partnering with Kaison Asset Management to launch Kaison Asian Small & Mid Cap Fund SP (the "Fund"). The Fund is Cayman-domiciled for professional investors only.

The Fund, managed by Mr. Winnoc Lui, will target investments within US and Asian ex-Japan markets, looking to achieve long term absolute returns. The long-short portfolio will focus on small and mid-cap companies and derivatives such as index future for hedging. Although the portfolio may also include options and fixed income depending on the tactic, the concentration will primarily be in equities.

The Fund will apply a thematic approach to its investment process, deploy a top-down data driven model, and use fundamental research to identify opportunities. Trading strategies, position sizing and portfolio risk will be based on the market, liquidity, and conviction level.

"Last year, equity markets suffered, mispricing these small and mid-cap companies across Asia. There are more opportunities than people realize, and few funds leverage the regional exposure. When you compare the value of small and mid-cap companies across these different markets, you realize there is huge potential," Mr. Lui explains.

Mr. Lui's strategy draws on over 15 years in the financial industry, the last 7 of which were portfolio management and advisory. Previously, he was the Vice President of Asset Management Department at ICBC International Holdings managing assets under management of $300 M USD, focusing on Hong Kong and china equities, developing investment strategies, sector allocation, and portfolio management. Prior to this, he was an investment advisor at OP Investment Management overseeing DNB Asset Management's global emerging market allocation for Asia, for which he was previously a portfolio manager prior to DNB's departure from Hong Kong. Mr. Lui began his career at Goldman Sachs and KE Absolute in the prime brokerage, custody management team, and sales & trading respectfully. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in Finance from the London School of Economics.

"There are strong Asia small-mid cap managers in the region, but most are single country focused. Winnoc's great pedigree speaks well to his research depth and breadth in portfolio management skills," Alvin Fan, Chief Executive Officer of OP Investment stated. "Investors will appreciate access into this growing space with pan-Asian exposure.  We are thrilled to be partner with him as it will be our first Asia-focused small-mid cap fund launching off our platform."
