According to an article at Forbes concerning the US labor shortage, 81 percent of recruitment professionals find it challenging to fill certain roles. With its capacity to analyze resumes and match candidates to job descriptions in a fraction of the time it would take a human recruiter, AI has the potential to narrow this gap.
In his report, Hall notes that by making data-based decisions, AI tools ensure candidates are evaluated based on their skills and qualifications, expediting the shortlisting process, preventing bias, and ultimately streamlining accurate hiring choices.
“AI has the potential to transform HR operations for small businesses, making them more efficient and data-driven,” says Scott Hall. “But HR teams should not dive blindly into AI without knowing what they want to achieve. Small businesses must understand their goals with AI-driven recruitment tools to optimize their cost-benefit ratios”.
To implement AI solutions correctly, Hall says small businesses must assess their readiness for adopting this technology by evaluating their current processes, their data management practices, and their technological infrastructure.
When choosing between options, factors such as features, costs, ease of implementation, and vendor support should all be considered.
Given the privacy concerns associated with AI systems collecting and analyzing large amounts of personal data, Hall says employees must be educated on this issue and trained to follow all relevant data protection laws and regulations.
While HR departments are responsible for recruitment, they must also monitor employee engagement, retention, and turnover. Hall says an additional benefit AI tools can offer is their ability to spot internal problems like low engagement, high turnover, and employees likely to quit, enabling CHROs to take steps to retain their employees and initiate necessary internal improvements.
Hall concludes that by leveraging AI tools, small businesses can improve the quality of their hires, increase operational efficiencies, and make more informed HR decisions. He cautions, however, that AI is best used in support of HR functions, enhancing their abilities and improving decision-making.
