Singapore firm bags $29.6m deals in Brunei

Singapore-based construction firm Ley Choon Group Holdings has clinched contracts worth around $29.6 million to build a flyover and other projects in Brunei.

In a disclosure to the Singapore Stock Exchange, the firm announced Wednesday that its subsidiary in Brunei, Ley Choon EWC Sdn Bhd, secured contracts which involve the construction of a flyover bridge at Jalan Gadong and Jalan Telanai as as well as sewerage works at Berangan, Kianggeh and Subok.

It was revealed in a previous report that the flyover bridge is one of several projects under the Public Works Department (PWD) and part of the infrastructure projects under the 10th National Development Plan. "This includes a bridge connecting from Bandar Seri Begawan to Sg Kebun, flyovers in Jln Gadong and Jln Telanai followed by construction of roads in Jerudong. Obviously ongoing maintenance of the existing roads and bridges will continue," Acting Director of Public Works Hjh Siah Hj Amat had said.

"Winning these latest contracts not only added a valuable new client to our established clientele base, but has also given us an opportunity to showcase our abilities in road construction as we embark on our first flyover bridge construction," Toh Choo Huat, executive chairman and chief executive officer of Ley Choon said in the disclosure.

"Ley Choon's concerted efforts to extend its client base and tap new opportunities in Brunei have achieved results and we will continue to expand our footprint and strengthen our market position in Brunei," he added.

Ley Choon said it made its maiden overseas venture into Brunei in late 2011 to undertake civil engineering construction activities.

The firm has since secured six contracts totalling approximately $54 million and has diversified its activities to include the supply and installation of water treatment plants.

The contracts are not expected to have any material impact on the company's earnings or the net tangible assets for the financial year ending December 31, 2013, the disclosure added.

According to its website, the company specialises in underground utilities infrastructure construction and maintenance, sewer pipeline rehabilitation, road and airfield construction and maintenance as well as asphalt pre-mix production and construction waste recycling.
