Thai Teams Advance to Second Phase of Bangkok Open 2018

CANADIAN TWINS JOIN TOP SEEDS THROUGH TO TOP 12

BANGKOK, May 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A packed day three of the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour -- Bangkok Open 2018 saw 32 matches played through four pools of four teams for the 16 teams in the main draw in the men's and women's divisions. These were held to decide the first, second and third seeded teams from each pool to progress to Saturday's Round of 12 and quarterfinals.

After hard-fought duels on all three courts at Bangkok's King Mongkut's Institute of Technology, the 12 women's teams that will advance were: Anna Behlen/Sarah Schneider (GER); Megan and Nicole McNamara (CAN), Janne Pedersen/Hanne Haugen Zylstra(NOR), Bree Scarbrough/Aurora Davis(USA), Leila Consuelo Martinez Ortega/Mailen Deliz Tamayo(CUB), Paula Soria Gutierrez/Maria Belen Carro Marquez de Acuna (ESP), Tadva Yoken/Sigrid Simonsson(SWE), Marta Ozolina/Agnese Caica (LAT), Ayumi Kusano/Takemi Nishibori(JPN), Pronsuda Kritsana/Yodsaphat Pakham(THA), Urte Andriukaityte/Irina Zobnina(LTU) and Wai Yan Au Yeung/Ting Chi Yuen(HKG). With two wins from the two matches, Behlen/Schneider, the McNamara twins, Pedersen/Zylstra and Scarbrough/Davis all secured an automatic bye to the quarterfinals.

In the men's competition, the 12 teams through were: Aleksandr Kramarenko/Taras Myskiv (RUS), Takumi Takahashi/Yusuke Ishijima(JPN), Florian Schnetzer/Daniel Mullner (AUT), Tim Dickson/Marcus Ferguson (AUS), Katsuhiro Shiratori/Yuya Ageba (JPN), Martin Appelgren/Simon Boman (SWE), Paul Becker/Eric Stadie(GER), Armin Dollinger/Simon Kulzer(GER), Nuttanon Inkiew/Sedtawat Padsawud(THA), Yoshiumi Hasegawa/Keisuke Shimizu (JPN), Alejandro and Javier Huerta Pastor (ESP) and Tsz Ho Kelvin Lau/Pui Lam Wong (HKG). Kramarenko/Myskiv, Takahashi/Gottsu, Schnetzer/Mullner and Dickson/Ferguson all carded a clean sheet of two wins to top their respective pools to secure an automatic bye and berth into the final eight.

The Round of 12 and quarterfinals takes place on Saturday (12 May) with semi-final and medals-decider matches on Sunday (13 May).
