SINGAPORE - Waterfront living is gaining popularity among young prospective home-buyers.
Who doesn't want to live with spectacular views of the sea, or go for leisurely jogs in the evenings by a reservoir?
But though more buyers are eyeing waterfront living, such properties are limited in Singapore, noted Mr Lim Yew Soon, managing director of EL Development.
And according to property agents that My Paper spoke to, the cost of an apartment with a sea view can cost about 20 per cent more, compared to another apartment without those views in the same building.
However, Mr Lim said that even if buyers cannot get an apartment with an unblocked view, it is still a "big plus" if they can get easy access to waterfronts.
He reasoned that living near a waterfront means residents have easy access to a plethora of activities.
"Wide recreational spaces give many choices for family- bonding activities, such as spending the day at the beach or cycling," said Mr Lim. Alfresco dining options are also "just a stone's throw away", he said.
There are many amenities at waterfront parks in Singapore, each park boasting its own individual charm.
Kallang will appeal most to water-sport enthusiasts, due to its close proximity to the Kallang Water Sports Centre, where activities such as dragon boating and canoeing are available.
Another draw in the Kallang area is the Kallang Sports Hub, expected to open next year. It will host leisure facilities as well as world-class competitive events.
One development that's coming up in the area is Eight River-Suites, which will get its temporary occupancy permit (TOP) by the first quarter of 2016. Its architectural concept takes inspiration from the river, as the flow of the river is recreated on the facade.
In Punggol, the Punggol Waterway Park boasts facilities like the Recreation Zone, where families can play in sand and water. There are mature trees and vegetation along a stretch of the old Punggol Road at the park's Heritage Zone.
Residents can look forward to a 50ha nature park on Coney Island next year. The park will have only basic facilities, such as campsites, in order to preserve the pristine nature of the island.
Upcoming developments in Punggol include La Fiesta, a festival-themed development that will be ready in June 2017, with condominium facilities such as a 50m pool, a pool bar, and themed gardens.
Pasir Ris is attracting many home-buyers, thanks to the area's family-friendly activities. Downtown East provides family fun in a water theme park, a bowling alley and cinema facilities. And sporty kids would love the nearby Gallop Stable, with horse-riding activities.
Soon-to-be-developed properties include D'Nest, a nature-inspired luxury condominium that will get its TOP by December 2017. Facilities include a 50m pool, a gym, a jamming studio and a karaoke studio.
Woodlands Waterfront Park features a large "multi-generational playground" and a 400m jetty, where people can fish or simply live closer to the sea.
Developments there include the Twin Fountains executive-condominium project, which will be ready in October 2016. Its units are surrounded by water features.
