Celebrity chef cooks for the needy

Celebrity chef Ian Curley stirring the pot and creating quite a stir as he cooked a meal for about 3,500 needy folk from one- and two-room flats on Thursday.

He was joined by Singapore-based chefs Dallas Cuddy (second from left) from The Prime Society and Grand Hyatt Executive Chef Lucas Glanville (second from right) to whip up a meal of soya sauce chicken, vegetables and fried bee hoon.

They had the help of 60 volunteers from local soup kitchen Willing Hearts who also delivered the meals. The Melbourne-based Mr Curley, 50, who guest-starred in Australia's popular TV series, MasterChef, grew up in England, the son of a bus driver and a housewife. "I cook for the rich," said the chef, who is in Singapore for The 18th World Gourmet Summit. "But I also want to give back to the poor."
