Among the hundreds of thousands of passengers Yinchuan International Airport will receive for the 2019 Spring Festival travel rush, Bean Bun stands out as unusual while boarding a flight to the capital city of Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region.

Instead of reuniting with families or friends for the most important festival in the country, the 1-year-old Corgi is flying as an emotional support animal, accompanying Ms Chen to help her get through the six-hour trip.

Like guide dogs for the visually impaired, emotional support dogs are a type of service animal that professionals have trained to offer comfort and companionship for human beings who suffer from anxiety or psychological disorders.

In China, only Sichuan Airlines and China Southern Airlines currently allow passengers to travel with emotional support dogs, provided that the individuals submit a series of certificates in advance.
