Chromebook shipments expected to increase dramatically

DigiTimes has recently reported that Chromebook shipments in the second half of 2013, will see a double of even triple fold increase from shipment numbers in the first half of 2013.

DigiTime's upstream supply chain sources have indicated that current Chromebook manufacturers Acer, Lenovo, HP and Samsung will be increasing Chromebook orders from Chromebook ODMs like Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics.

These Chromebook manufacturers, along with Taiwanese PC manufacturer ASUS, are also expected to introduce new Chromebook models to the market in the later half of the year.

The report speculated that manufacturers are turning to Chromebooks to counter Microsoft's industry dominance, and also due to Windows 8's weak demand which affects shipment numbers. Intel and AMD's entrance into the Chromebook market and strong support, are also said to be major contributing factors to the industry's favour in Chromebooks.
