Cricket: Singapore in the driver's seat

Singapore continued to dominate hosts Malaysia after the second day's play in the three-day Under-23 match for the 2013 Carl Schubert Trophy.

The Republic scored 283 for eight in their first innings in match restricted to 75 overs at Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

The visitors then dismissed Malaysia for 170 after the hosts resumed on 61 for four with Karthik Suresh (4-36) and Sachin Mylavarapu (4-26) doing most of the damage.

On Saturday, Singapore stretched the lead to 298, ending the day on 185 for six with Prasheen Paraam and Varun Varman contributing 52 and 57 respectively.

Prasheen's elder brother Anish Paraam, who made 153 in Singapore's first innings, scored 41.

The final day's play resumes on Sunday with Singapore expecting to bat the first hour and then hoping to dismiss Malaysia in their search for victory.

Singapore hope to make it a double, after winning the 2012 title last Wednesday 1-0, based on one victory, a tie and a cancelled match (due to rain).
