SINGAPORE - The design on a new integrated development at Ophir Road has been unveiled today.

The development in the Rochor area will complement the Marina Bay and Raffles Place business clusters, developers M+S said today.

Designed by acclaimed architect Ole Scheeren and due for completion in 2017, DUO will consist of an office tower and a residential tower.

While the office tower will house prime office space, a five-star hotel and a retail gallery, the residential block will have 660 residential units.

DUO's name is meant to reflect the two towers in the heart of the financial district, as well as the double characteristics of the cosmopolitan CBD on one side and the historical Kampong Glam on the other.

"We are committed to delivering a development that strikes a sensitive balance between the preservation of this significantly historical and vibrant area while at the same time enhancing it with mixed-use facilities that are relevant to the future needs of Singapore," said Tan Sri Azman Yahya, Chairman of the Board of Directors of M+S.

With a gross floor area of about 1.8 million square feet, DUO will be directly connected to Bugis MRT station.

Mr Scheeren said that the design of the development will incorporate environmental strategies and energy-efficient design.

"The building's orientation is optimised to prevailing sun and wind angles, while the concave building massing captures and channels wind flows through and across the site, fostering cool micro-climates within the shaded outdoor spaces," he said.

The development has already been recognised internationally with an award in the "Best Futura Project" category at the recent MIPIM Asia Awards 2012. M+S is a joint investment created by Khazanah and Temasek. The DUO project is managed by with CapitaLand Limited and UEM Land Holdings.
