Find out why Daniel Craig resisted using an Android phone in Spectre

According to leaked emails from last year's massive Sony hack, Sony was reportedly keen to have their Xperia Z4 phone featured in the new James Bond film Spectre.

Sony reportedly offered Daniel Craig US$5 million (S$7 million) to use a Sony Xperia Z4 in Spectre. But this soon grew to a US$18 million marketing commitment.

Sony wasn't the only one who wanted their phones to be featured in Spectre. Samsung was said to be keen too and was said to have offered a whopping US$50 million marketing and promotional package along with a $5 million product placement for Craig to be seen using an Android phone with Samsung's brand on it in the film.

Unfortunately, Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes were both uninterested in the deal.

In the leaked emails, Andrew Gumpert, President of Worldwide Business Affairs and Operations for Columbia Pictures, wrote: "BEYOND the $$ factor, there is, as you may know, a CREATIVE factor whereby Sam and Daniel don't like the Sony phone for the film (the thinking, subjectively/objectively is that James Bond only uses the 'best,' and in their minds, the Sony phone is not the 'best')."

Incidentally, Spectre is distributed by Columbia Pictures, which is a division of the Sony Pictures Entertainment.
