MyRepublic promises supporters 1 year free mobile data

SINGAPORE - In a bid to secure its place as Singapore's fourth telco, My Republic is now offering unlimited local mobile data to supporters for a year if their mobile bid succeeds.

All MyRepublic customers who have signed up before Sept 30 this year and remain a customer until the launch of its mobile services will qualify for the promotion.

The telco aspirant will also be carrying out a mobile trial starting Oct 22.

MyRepublic said in a press statement that interested participants who wish to join the trial must sign up at my4thtelco.sg by Sept 8.

Up to 500 members of the public will be selected as trial participants. To access the network, each selected participant will be provided a smartphone - potential models being evaluated for the trial include the Xiaomi Mi 4i - and a first-edition MyRepublic Mobile SIM card.

All trial participants will be able to keep their smartphone for free if they complete a short list of tasks by the end of the 8-week trial period.

Priority will be given to participants who work or live near Jurong East as well as MyRepublic subscribers.

MyRepublic has sought permission from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to install new equipment near Jurong East MRT station to form its own mobile network.

The company uses small cell technology unlike traditional telcos which rely on a large base station to provide network coverage. These small cells can be deployed inside vehicles and lifts to provide better connectivity.
