Portable bluetooth speakers review: Nyne TT

Nyne is a relatively new company that made their big showing with last year with an assortment of docks and portable speakers. 

This year, they streamlined their offerings to just four products. The Nyne Bass, TT, Cruiser and Mini - for big bass, frequent flyers, bikers, and teens respectively. At least that's how Nyne would like to market them.

Measuring 10.12 x 6 x 2 inches and weighing in at 0.91kg, it's larger than most in our lineup, but is certainly slim enough to fit into a cabin bag for overnight trips, and it comes with an assortment of travel plug adapters and a carry case with shoulder strap. It also has an integrated noise cancelling microphone allows you to make calls through the TT.

Its internal rechargeable battery can also be used to charge your phone via USB charging, but at just 2,200mAh we don't really recommend it; it wouldn't even be able to fully charge most modern flagship smartphones today.

We were actually a little surprised the Nyne TT wasn't louder given how it was one of the largest speakers in the shootout, but otherwise it was one of the better performers of the group.

Bass was never an issue with any of the tracks we tried, and the high notes on tracks like the solo on the Eagles' Hotel California rang most pleasantly.

However, it would appear the TT has a U-shaped sound signature as midrange notes are its weakness.

Certain notes seemed to be slightly distorted on our tests, and on Tiesto's Elements of Life, we found the midrange notes to be a little blanketed towards the later stages, even breaking up towards the end.
