WhatsApp labels all forwarded messages to combat fake news

To minimise fake news from spreading on its platform, WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature which labels all forwarded messages.

In a blog post, WhatsApp states that there will be an indication in one-on-one and group chats on which messages you receive have been forwarded.

It will help make the context of the conversations easier to follow and determine if the message is written by your friend/relative or if it originally came from someone else.

This feature will be rolling out from today and users need to have the latest supported version of WhatsApp to see it.

The labelling of forwarded messages may not be able to eliminate the source of the fake news, but it acts as another layer of check for users to assess whether the information is accurate or not.
