A dumpling feast for 'Little New Year'

CHINA - A village in Sujiatuo town, Beijing's Haidian district, held an annual dumpling feast on Jan 23. The tradition is known as xiaonian, which means "Little New Year". The festival falls on the 23rd or 24th of the 12th lunar month. More than 2,000 villagers participated in the event.

"I'm so happy to celebrate Little New Year with other villagers. These dumplings are particularly tasty. I've been looking forward to this day for a long time," said an 82-year-old villager surnamed Liu.

"We made more than 80,000 dumplings for this year's celebration. Everyone is busy but happy," a villager added.

There were other activities to entertain villagers, including writing couplets, dancing and singing. They ate delicious dumplings while watching wonderful performances.
