Eating out for under $11 in Malaysia: Taps Beer Bar

I've been a little smitten with fruity ciders, rice lagers and spiced beers lately and thanks to this new love affair, I found myself a nice little place to sneak out for lunch and yes, you guessed it, I get a full meal for all under RM30 (S$11).

Taps Beer Bar is essentially a bar with live music at night, however, at the start of the year it also introduced a lunch menu for RM17 nett (including GST). The menu isn't extensive but it has an eclectic mix which will suit a range of palates - from Malaysian staples Beef Rendang and Char Kuey Teow, to Asian classics like Lamb Kurma, Thai Green Chicken Curry and Dan Dan Noodles to Western delights including Margherita Pizza and Taps' Beef Burger. The portions are large enough to fill you up, and the meal comes with a refillable drink - coffee, tea, ice lemon tea. If you like, you get a serving of cut fruits as well.

Most of the dishes also come with sides - so if you order a burger, you get fried onion rings and fried egg; or if you opt for the Chilli Spiked Prawns, you'll get mozzarella on toast, served with avocado salsa.

Now since you're at the bar, the craft brews available on tap may start calling out to you. But you're likely to blow your RM30 budget if you go down that path.

So stick to the meals, and you'll be right. Leave the beer-guzzling for the night.
