Actor Chang Chen to marry ex-assistant

TAIPEI - Actor Chang Chen will tie the knot with his former assistant on Nov 18, in a wedding star-studded enough to rival the Golden Horse Awards, say newspapers.

Chang, who is managed by Wong Kar Wai's company Jet Tone, is expecting the director and co-stars such as Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Carina Lau and Zhang Ziyi at the ceremony at Spot - Taipei Film House, says Taiwan Apple Daily.

Directors Lee Ang and Hou Hsiao-hsien, as well as actress Shu Qi, have also promised to be present. Invitations have been sent to stars such as Takeshi Kaneshiro and directors such as John Woo and Kim Ki Duk.

The report says Chang is geting married five days before the 50th Golden Horse gala, as most of his celebrity guests will have flown in to Taipei by then for the awards.

Chang and his bride-to-be Chuang Wen-ju, both 37, have dated for four years and he proposed to her in January, says United Daily News. She worked with him when she was at Jet Tone and she has also been a Japanese translator, says Apple.

Spot is a colonial mansion that housed the United States government's Taipei consulate decades ago. It has been transformed into a cinema, bookstore and cafe by Hou, who secured the space for Chang's wedding, says United.

Chang has starred in hits such as Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Wong's 2046 (2004) and Woo's Red Cliff (2008).

The actor is famous - or notorious - for ending a six-year relationship with singer Jozie Lu Chia-hsin via a postcard in 2005.

Through the years, he has been linked to co-stars such as Shu Qi.
