SINGAPORE - Local television actress Rebecca Lim has made a shocking retirement announcement via her social media accounts.
On Friday morning, Lim wrote on Instagram that she had decided to "do something that will change my life".
She also added that she had been "thinking about it for a while now".
In her post, Lim did not specify what choices she was facing.
She wrote: "Yes, I am retiring. I know you may have questions for me and I will answer them real soon. Meanwhile, be happy for me".
According to Toggle, Mediacorp's artiste management team released a statement shortly after but did not confirm if Lim was retiring from show business.
"Thank you for your concern about Rebecca. She will have answers to your questions soon. We seek your kind understanding," the statement reportedly said.
Fans expressed shock and sadness at Lim's sudden announcement, but many left messages to wish her luck in future endeavours. One Instagram user Smartyyingying asked if she was retiring to get married, while drgabwong urged the star to "live without regrets".
Other celebrities also left encouraging notes for Lim. Fellow actress Sora Ma and former Mediacorp radio jockey Cruz Teng both wished her the best via Instagram.
Just two weeks ago, Lim, 29, attended the soft launch of her latest drama The Dream Job, which also stars her rumoured beau Ian Fang, 26.
Lim told The New Paper in a Jan 27 article that relatives had asked her about the nature of her relationship with Fang.
"I tell them that if there's anything, I will inform them. I won't hide it, especially when it's something good," she was quoted as saying.
The actress was presented with the Best Actress Award at last year's Star Awards. In 2014, she was also named Best Supporting Actress.
She is currently a nominee in the 2016 Star Awards for her role as a straight-talking property agent in Channel 8 drama Sealed with a Kiss.
