Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got matching tattoos before split

Getting matching tattoos with your significant other might be an appealing idea to some - but what happens when the relationship tanks shortly after the irreversible procedure?

Don't beat yourself up if you're guilty, because Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have also committed the unfortunate faux pas.

The former A-list couple reportedly got tattooed together in Asia back in February 2016. They later announced their separation in September.

Both Jolie and Pitt were inked by famed tattoo artist and former monk, Ajarn noo Kanpai, in Thailand, Entertainment Online (ETOnline) reported.

Kanpai had previously tattooed 41-year-old Jolie back in 2004. However, BBC reported that he was flown over this time to Jolie's location in Cambodia, where she was directing her film, 'First They Killed My Father'.

Pitt, 45, was accompanying his ex-wife at the time.

Good thing is, there's nothing about the tattoos that point to each other, BBC reported.

The actress got three Sak Yant tattoos, which are traditionally ancient geometric designs mixed with Buddhist prayers, on her back while her ex got a Buddhist symbol on the left side of his stomach, sources told ETOnline.

Ironically, tabloid news agency Splash reported that the two Hollywood stars were tattooed using the same ink in a move to "symbolically bind them as husband and wife".

Whether the pair regret their decision to get permanently inked is anyone's guess but perhaps the tattoos could serve as a reminder of the good times they shared as Hollywood's one-time power couple.
