B.A.P set to conquer Singapore

A fan of South Korean hip-hop group B.A.P was so enamoured with one of its members, Himchan, that she named her baby after him.

At a press conference yesterday for their concert at the Star Theatre tonight, the 24-year-old singer recounted, sounding amused: "A pregnant Korean fan once asked me if she could name her baby Himchan, and I was like, sure. She has since given birth and his name is really Himchan.

"In Korean, Himchan means 'energetic', so I hope the baby will be full of energy and have a happy life." B.A.P, which stand for "best, absolute, perfect", also comprise members Zelo, 17; leader Yongguk, 24; Jongup, 19; Daehyun, 20; and Youngjae, 20.

Their show here is part of their Live On Earth 2014 world tour, conceptualised around the notion that the group's members are aliens who have landed on Earth and are set to conquer the world with their music.

Given that another South Korea-based alien - actor Kim Soo Hyun's character Do Min Joon from the hit drama series My Love From The Star - has been all the rage lately, B.A.P are naturally asked to compare themselves to Do.

The chatty Himchan says gamely: "Do Min Joon is different because he is ready to go back to his star. For us, we hope to stay on Earth to gather more energy first before going back to our star. We will work on that."

As for which group member is the closest to resembling an alien, Daehyun laughs before saying that it has to be the band's youngest member, Zelo.

He says: "Zelo has grown up so much in the past two years. He can't possibly be human."
