Be cat-ivated as award-winning musical comes to Singapore

The Jellicle Cats will be back in town in January, in one of the most famous musical performances in West End history.

Cats will be in Singapore for a three-week run from Jan 9 to 25 at the MasterCard Theatres at Marina Bay Sands. It was last performed in Singapore in 2009.

British newspaper Sunday Express called it "a brilliantly conceived song-and-dance spectacular".

Cats has won two Olivier Awards, including Musical of the Year, and seven Tony Awards. It has been shown in over 26 countries in 14 languages.

The 53-strong cast and crew from Britain, which includes a live band, will perform a score composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Cats will feature songs like The Invitation To The Jellicle Ball, Jellicle Songs and the all-time classic hit Memory.

Memory has been performed by artists including Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Celine Dion and Lea Salonga.

Cats - based on T. S. Eliot's book of poems, Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats - is a story about a tribe of Jellicle cats who come together for the annual Jellicle Ball.

They tell their stories to amuse Old Deuteronomy, an old wise cat, who chooses one of them to ascend to the Heaviside Layer so they can be reborn.

The multiple award-winning musical first opened in London in May 1981, and went on to play for 21 years in London's West End and 18 years on Broadway.

Cats in Singapore is produced by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions and Base Entertainment Asia in association with The Really Useful Group.

Ticket prices range from $65 to $195.
