Bosom buddies: Ring girls at MMA event are best friends

SINGAPORE - Good things sometimes come in pairs.

Expect double the fun when best friends and Japanese models Maya T and Mila G team up as ring girls at this year's One Fighting Championship (FC) tonight.

These placard-hoisting babes, who boast DD- and D-cup assets respectively, are in town to turn up the heat at the Singapore Indoor Stadium as they strut around in their skimpy bikini tops, drumming up excitement between fighting bouts.

Maya T and Mila G, whose real names are Megumi Tanioka and Masumi Segawa respectively, are up-and-coming import models based in Vancouver, Canada.

The pair, both 28, moved from Japan in 2008 and 2007 respectively before settling down in Canada to build their modelling portfolios while juggling their job as waitresses in a high-end Japanese restaurant.

They met on the job in 2011 and it was Maya T who encouraged Mila G to keep pursuing a modelling career. Since then, they have been close friends.

When Maya T landed the One FC ring girl stint, she asked Mila G to try it out as well.

Maya T has appeared on the cover of car magazine Super Street, while her good friend has fronted the cover of FHM Singapore.

The sizzling duo land car modelling gigs often and will next work their magic at Canada car show Importfest in July, but they agree that their latest One FC ring girl stint is their biggest gig to date.

WOULD YOU DATE AN MMA FIGHTER?

Maya T: Sure! Think of those big, strong muscles... But I also like guys who are supportive and have a nice smile.

MILA G: I think my boyfriend, who works out regularly, already has the "fighter" look.

We've been together for six years. He's really supportive of me and checks on me whenever I go for photo shoots to make sure I'm safe.

WILL YOU EVER POSE NUDE?

MAYA T: I want to keep it classy and it's all about the angles.

For example, I'll say no to a full view of my bum, but if it's from the side, I may be okay with it if I have some clothes on. Posing nude is (out).

MILA G: I have never taken my clothes off and never will. I want to look professional, not trashy.

DO YOU HAVE HATERS AND HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THE NEGATIVITY?

MAYA T: Someone once said I was skinny. You don't have to say that in public.

MILA G: Once, someone commented on my photo and asked me if I had gained weight.

Another time, someone posted mean comments like "slut" or "**** you" on my photos.

I replied, "Thank you for visiting my page, but if you don't like my photos, don't come back."

IS YOUR FAMILY OKAY WITH YOU BARING SKIN FOR MODELLING GIGS?

MAYA T: I kept it from my parents for two years because I knew they would tell me to stop.

When I finally told them about it, they said it was "embarrassing".

They are old-fashioned, but they are coping better with it now.

MILA G: My parents are supportive of what I do. After they learnt I became a One FC ring girl, they are prouder of what I do.

One day, I want to take them to a One FC event.

WHAT IS YOUR EXERCISE REGIMEN LIKE?

MAYA T: I work out regularly and do exercises such as squats and deadlifts.

On "cheat" days, I love to eat Thai food.

MILA G: I try to exercise now that I live three minutes from the gym.

But I'm more chill and if I'm not motivated, I'll tell myself, "Okay, skip day!"

HAVE YOU EVER HAD YOUR UGLY DUCKLING MOMENTS?

MAYA T: I used to wear these huge, thick glasses and had short hair because I played softball in junior high school.

MILA G: When I was in junior high school, people used to call me Milkboy because I had really short hair and looked like a boy.

When I was beside my sister, who had long hair, they would think that I was a boy. I also wore braces and glasses in high school.

I have never taken my clothes off and never will. I want to look professional, not trashy. - Mila G
