CD Review: Coup D'etat

There are some seriously cool names on K-pop star G-Dragon's second album.

The 25-year-old leader of K-pop group Big Bang employed the likes of US DJ Diplo, German producer and DJ Boys Noize, US producer Baauer of Harlem Shake fame and indie star Sky Ferreira for about half of the album's 14 tracks.

And yet, there's nothing here as immediately grabbing as the hits from his 2012 EP, One Of A Kind.

The titular lead single - produced by both Diplo and Baauer - is a cool little song, but not brassy enough for a track that purports to be about making a music revolution. It's certainly not as brassy as anything on One Of A Kind.

One standout is the Missy Elliott collaboration Niliria, which sees the two rap cheekily over a sample of traditional Korean music.

Perhaps G-Dragon should let his own star shine next time.
