Child actor Keane Chan didn't see ghost while filming debut movie

It may be his first movie, but child actor Keane Chan is not a newcomer to acting.

The wide-eyed 14-year-old student, who plays a medium alongside Hong Kong A-lister Sandra Ng and home-grown comedian Mark Lee in upcoming local drama-comedy A Fantastic Ghost Wedding, has small roles on Channel 5 and Channel 8 productions under his belt.

Opening here tomorrow, the movie tells the story of an overbearing mother (Ng) who hires a superstar medium Boy (Keane) and his father (Lee) to help find a wife for her dead son.

Keane is not the only budding actor in his family.

His 16-year-old brother Kyle Chan won the Young Talent title at the 2007 Star Awards for his role as a deaf and dumb child in Channel 8 drama The Greatest Love Of All.

M talks to Keane about his role:

How was it like working with big names like Ng and Lee?

"At first, I didn't know who Sandra was but then I realised that I had watched a few of her shows before. I was a little nervous when I met her and didn't really know what to say to her.

"As for Mark, it was easy communicating with him. We spoke in a mix of English and Singlish. I was very excited to act with him."

How did you prepare for this role?

"My mother explained the role to me, and I practised my dialogue with her.

"I also thought about how I would express my emotions to perform my role properly. I googled the word 'medium' to find out more about it."

Were you scared while filming the movie?

"No, there were many people on set, so it wasn't scary at all. I also did not see any ghosts."

What were the challenges you faced?

"The main challenge was when I had to perform a ritual and do martial arts while wearing the big robe.

"It was very hot as we were acting under the blazing sun. I learnt martial arts in the past, so it helped."

Do you want to take on more acting jobs in the future?

"Not for now. I want to focus on my studies first."
